Lime Scale Build-up Solution - natural, edible, no smell, and EASY!

Lime Scale Build-up Solution - natural, edible, no smell, and EASY TO DO

The conversation went something like this:
I have a lime build-up problem on my .......(toilet, shower tile, faucet, teapot, etc)
that I hate to use those awful smelling cleaners on like "the works" etc (or in the case of food dishes like the teapot - I just
can't get clean) but I can't find anything natural to clean it. Do you have any ideas?

Yes, I do. It really is easy and you really shouldn't have to have those toxic chemicals to clean with. It's a shame that
simple food grade cleaning isn't being marketed in the grocery store cleaning aisle, but it's not patentable or 'brand-able"
so they don't do it. Great Grandma knew - but now we have "tide" and "the works" etc - it's not a fair trade. :-(

You may have heard remedies like vinegar or coke soda, and they work sometimes, but if it's really bad or if you want really simple and easy, there's another way.

Citric Acid is a food grade item that is commonly used in food to balance the ph of things like fruit juices to retain color and
reduce bacterial growth.
It is a type of vitamin c that comes from citrus products.

And it works amazingly on lime scale. It's really a science lesson in ph. neutralizing - acid neutralizes alkaline.

Citric acid - (or any acid including those noxious chemicals in toilet cleaners like "the works")
neutralizes - balances the ph to neutral of whatever it is touching that is opposite of it's ph.
Lime scale - which is calcium carbonate having a high alkaline ph.
By neutralizing, it dissolves the adhesion of the alkaline lime scale to the solid surface.
If you apply a highly acidic substance to a highly alkaline surface it will neutralize the alkalinity by dissolving the alkaline
substance into the water solution.

Remember the water pan grandma kept on the woodstove all winter as a humidifier for dry winter air? That's why she
would put vinegar in the water, to neutralize the alkaline water and make it not build up.  But if she forgot, the pan had a just about impossible to remove lime shale that she was stuck with.
That's also why water softeners are used. Salt neutralizes the water and leaves it slightly acidic so your water doesn't build up in your water heater and shower head and your washer. Acidic water makes your laundry soap work easier.
But we need an alkaline ph in our body to be healthy, diseases only manifest in acidic body systems - so soft water isn't
good to drink. Neither are soft drinks - same reason. They are acidic.

Ok - enough science,
Back to cleaning.

What to do? You need an easy and cheap way to acidify your lime build-up.
The common natural way is to use vinegar as a cleaner.
But vinegar is only 4% acidic. It's a weak solution. It works, if you clean very regularly to prevent buildup.
But what about those times when you need something that will dissolve that hard lime scale buildup?
You need stronger acidity. Concentrated acidity. But nobody wants those awful smelling fumes found in too many brand
name chemical cleaners.
A natural concentrated acidity is Citric Acid. Concentrated citrus acid - think tart lemon acidity.

Simply take some of this granular white powder (it looks like sugar and tastes like a tart lemon)
mix it with water (or vinegar if you want added kick)
and spray it on your lime scale. Let it sit - you gotta give it time to do it's dissolving work - then wipe it off.
Yes, it's that easy! Let science work for you!

Practical applications:
Toilet bowl lime scale - sprinkle citric acid around the bowl and into the water - 1/8th cup or so depending the lime scale
quantity. do it at night just before you go to bed so it can sit all night. Then wipe it off in the morning with a simple
brushing. It will literally wipe away. Spray areas not covered in water with tile spray below.

Shower tile - do the same but you'll need a spray bottle. So dissolve 1/4 cup or so into 8 oz of water or vinegar and spray
it on - leave it sit - wash it off later. Again, time is your friend - leaving it on overnight is great.

Teapot or water pan - fill with water, add a tablespoon or so of citric acid, bring to a boil - let sit till cool or longer - several
hours is best. Rinse and wash the residue off with your dishrag.

Need citric acid? You might have some in your cupboard, if you make jam or wine. It is commonly used to retain fruit
color in the jam and ph balance wine

If you need some, or if you want a better bulk price for a larger amount than you'll find in the grocery store for jam canning
or wine making,
We have a 2 pound quart jug or a 4 pound half gallon jug available . It is food grade, you can use it for cleaning and jam. :-)

Happy easy cleaning!

Carrier Oils.  Food Grade Oils.  Bulk Oils Details

Here's a compilation of some details on the base oils we use and offer.
I have also included some links to more information.

Bulk Oils Description

Olive - Pure Golden
This is the light flavored Pure 100% olive oil everyone loves from the Mediterranean. It’s Pure
100% olive oil, this is NOT a blend of oils labeled “olive oil” like you can commonly find in
stores but only if you read the label carefully and find the small print stating “olive oil blend”.

Olive - Extra Virgin Organic
Olive oil is often considered the premium health oil. This is certified organic, cold pressed,
extra virgin olive oil from the Mediterranean.

Coconut - Extra Virgin Organic
(lightly sweet nutty flavor)
This is the sweet flavored super fresh kind direct from the Philippines. Many studies have been
done showing the amazing health benefits of cooking with and consuming coconut and palm
oils. It is also considered an excellent skin oil. Extra Virgin is always the premium best and
most nutritious grade of any oil, but health benefits have been achieved from using any food
grades of coconut oil. If you don’t appreciate the sweet flavor of the extra virgin, try the
flavorless filtered kind, but do try to add some naturally solid oils to your diet for your health.

Coconut - Organic, physically filtered (flavorless)
Filtered to remove flavor. Extra virgin is always the superior oil choice, but if you don’t like it’s
sweet flavor, here’s a flavorless organic coconut oil great for frying and baking.
Naturally solid oils like coconut & palm are THE BEST choice for high heat frying and
baking because their nutrients and structure do not degrade in high heat conditions like
oils that are naturally liquid at room temp. Room temp solidity also gives coconut and
palm oils an extended shelf life that liquid oils need refrigeration to achieve. Read more
about the benefits of nutrient traditional fats and oils like coconut and palm at:
http://www.westonaprice.org/know-your-fats This link has many well researched oil articles.

Palm – RED Extra Virgin Organic
This is what cold processed palm oil is. High in beta carotene and other nutrients, this dark
orange colored oil will tint anything it touches yellow or orange. Often used in ethnic cooking
for it’s color, since it is a virgin oil it has a slight palm flavor.

Palm - Organic, physically filtered
Virgin oils are always the superior choice, but if you don’t like the beta carotene orange color
of virgin palm, here’s an organic option that has been filtered to make it flavorless & colorless.
Palm has health benefits like coconut and is preferred over coconut by some for frying.

Coconut Oil Fractionated MCT
Coconut oil filtered & refined to be liquid not a solid. Fatty acids that create solidity have been
filtered out to leave only the Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) Common as a massage oil

Sunflower-Organic Hi-Oleic expeller pressed
A light flavored multi-purpose cooking or salad oil. Well suited for uses where you need a light
oil. Read more at: www.livestrong.com/article/82773-health-benefits-sunflower-oil/

Sweet Almond–exp press, food grade
Best known as a light oil, highly favored for skin and massage, sweet almond oil is also edible
and comparable to olive oil in beneficial aspects. This is food grade, & expeller pressed, not
the lower cosmetic grade sold for topical skin care only. Read more at:
www.livefitblog.com/2011/07/04/sweet-almond-oil-benefits/

Grapeseed Oil -
European origin. Light and tasty oil that's high in antioxidants. Used for cooking and salads.
Some like it for frying due to it’s high tolerance for heat. Also commonly recommended as a
facial oil and makeup remover. Read more at these 4 links: www.livestrong.com/article/297347-whatare-
the-benefits-of-cooking-with-grape-seed-oil/ and www.livestrong.com/article/411804-grapeseed-oilbenefits-
vs-olive-oil/ and www.grapeseedoilcorp.com/benefits.html &
www.marthastewart.com/268547/grapeseed-oil-101

Avocado Oil - Expeller pressed
Most people know avocado fruit is very nutritious, have
you considered cooking with avocado oil? It is rich in
nutrients, smooth and mild. A good liquid oil for cooking,
baking and salads. Also a great skin oil for moisturizing
itchy, dry, wrinkled, scarred or aged skin. A favorite for
massage. This oil is food grade, not the lower cosmetic
grade sold for skin care only. Don’t miss more info at:
www.AvocadoOilinfo.com This is an amazing price!

Jojoba Oil – Golden
Jojoba oil (pronounced “ho ho ba”) is an ultimate skin
conditioner. Said to be the closest to your skin’s natural
oil, this liquid “plant wax” has a golden color and an
incredible ability to nourish even the driest skin. Because
it’s molecular structure is closer to a wax than most oils,
it’s shelf life is extended to that of a solid oil instead of a
liquid oil. Good for sunburn too

Jojoba Oil – Clear Filtered
Same great oil as the golden only filtered to be clear for
mixing with essential oils or other skin care products.

Castor Oil
This thick, almost sticky oil is best known for it’s deep
moisturizing ability. A night-time application to hands or
feet then covered with socks can bring relief to dry,
cracked, or stressed skin. An old home remedy for
abdominal distress by applying thickly to skin, covering
with cotton then plastic and a hot pack. Read many more
uses at: www.homeremediesweb.com/castor-oil-healthbenefits.
php And It is a mole deterrent when applied
diluted to grass with hose sprayer. Read more at:
www.scootproducts.com/mole-repellent-products

Comes nitrogen flush packed upon arrival to keep it fresh.

An edible butter. Use in food or deserts. Great for making
your own body butter. Just melt and mix with less solid
oils, add some vitamin e oil for an awesome skin
treatment you’ll love. This is a very solid butter. It will
come in chunks in a bag.

Neem Oil - Virgin, Cold Pressed
An internet search will tell you this is a Great Price and
produce a list of useful benefits for this oil from organic
gardening to amazing skin healing benefits and folklore as
a contraceptive. It has a distinct charistic neem scent
and a greenish-brown virgin color.

skin and scar healing. 2oz is approx 43,200 IU or about
3,600 IU per teaspoon.

seed oils are known to be good for prostate, cholesterol,
bladder function, anti-parasite. Sold in capsule form as a
supplement. It is high in vitamins & minerals and essential
fatty acids – omega oils. For salads or by the spoonful.

So here's a comment I made today on a  facebook group page in response to a lady asking for a diaper rash remedy.
Thought I'd share it with you too.
POST QUOTE : Yes, I have an all natural skin salve that I originally made for my first son's diaper rash 20 years ago. It worked amazingly well at clearing up the stubborn rash with speed. Often with significant improvement by the next diaper. I shared it with friends and it went word of mouth from there. Since then I have heard testimonials that could fill a book. It's been used for all sorts of things from diaper rash to bug bites, poison ivy, cuts, sprains, all sorts of skin rashes, eczema, psoriasis, burns both major and minor, and super results with shingles and chemical caused rashes, cold sores and more. It has 9 healing herbs infused in a base of organic extra virgin olive oil and organic shea butter and natural bees wax with therapeutic grade Essential Oils of tea tree and lavender.

If YOU have a story to share about your experience with Skin salve, Please add it here in the comments.
